How to install Known in XAMPP Windows 11
Known is another free content management system that you can use to easily create a website or a blog. It was originally developed by Ben Werdmuller and Erin Richey. Known is can be easily use for websites for status updates, blog postings, and photos to a wide range of social media. Its last stable relese was on June 15, 2022 with the version 1.2.2. And we are going to use the same version for this tutorial. To begin, please download the Known and XAMPP intallers below.

Here are the steps on how to install Known website using XAMPP in Windows pc
XAMPP Installation
1. Open the XAMPP file that you downloaded. If there a question about antivirus, just press Yes to proceed.

2. If there is also a warning, just press OK to continue.

3. Under Setup - XAMPP, press NEXT to proceed.

4. Under Select Components, just press NEXT to proceed.

5. In the Installation folder, do not change C:\xampp, just press NEXT to continue.

6. In Bitnami for XAMPP, just uncheck "Learn more..." and press NEXT to proceed.

7. We are now ready to install XAMPP, press NEXT again.

8. Wait for the installation to finish.

9. When done, press Finish to exit installer.

Opening XAMPP and running Apache and MySQL
1. To run XAMPP, go to This PC > C drive > xampp > htdocs > find and open xampp-control.exe file.

2. Inside XAMPP Control Panel, click the Start buttons for Apache and MySQL.

3. Apache and MySQL are both running now, if you see 2 Stop buttons.

4. If there is also a Windows Security Alert, just press Allow access.

Copying and pasting Known folder inside htdocs
1. Extract the Known zip file that you downloaded and rename the extracted folder as "known". Copy your known folder and go to This PC.

2. Open your C drive.

3. Inside C, open xampp folder.

4. Inside xampp, open htdocs.

5. And inside htdocs, paste your known folder.

Creating needed database for Known installation via phpMyAdmin
1. We need a database for our Known installation. Open your web browser and go to 127.0.0.1 and press ENTER.

2. Inside, open phpMyAdmin.

3. Then, click Databases.

4. Under Create database, name it as "known_db" and set charset to utf8mb4_unicode_ci and press Create to continue.

5. In the Create table, name it as known_table and set columns to 4. Press Go to proceed.

6.For structure, name it as known and set INT as Type.

7. Then, set Collation to utf8_unicode_ci and leave all the other fields blank.

8. Press Save to save your database and table.

Creating needed User Account for Known installation via phpMyAdmin
1. We also need add a User Account in our phpMyAdmin. Open your web browser again and go to 127.0.0.1 and press ENTER.

2. Inside, go to phpMyAdmin again.

3. Then, press User Accounts.

4. Click "Add user account" under New.

5. Under Add user account, in Login Information do the following: User name - known_user. Host name - Local/localhost. Password - your desired password (do not forget it). Continue to STEP 6.

6. Under "Database for user account" check both options.

7. For Global privileges, just press "Check all".

8. And for SSL, select "Require None". When done, press GO to save your new Account User.

9. Done! You just added a new user.

Installing Known website using localhost via web browser
1. We are now ready to install Known CMS. Open your web browser and go to 127.0.0.1/known/warmup and press ENTER.

2. In the Known installation welcome page, just press "Let's get started" button to proceed.

3. Under Requirements, make sure all are met. A warning is just fine. When done, press "Hooray! Let's get you set up" to proceed.

4. Under Technical settings, do the following: For the first one, just give a name for your site. For the MySQL settings do this: MySQL database name - known_db. MySQL username - known_user. MySQL password - your password. MySQL server name - localhost. For the upload directory, just leave it and press "Onwards!" to proceed.

5. Done! You just created your Known website. See an example of default homepage below.

6. Now, press the "New Known site homepage" link to proceed.

7. Then, press "Get started" button.

8. In the "Create a new account to get started" do the following: Choose a username - admin. Your email address - enter a valid email address. Create a password - your desired admin password. When done, press Register to proceed.

9. Done! You've just created your Known website administrator account.

Opening Known website homepage and login page
1. To open your Known website homepage, just go to 127.0.0.1/known or localhost/known. Below is an example of edited Known website homepage.

Accessing Known website admin page
1. To access your Known website admin login page, just go to 127.0.0.1/session/login.

2. Enter your admin username and password and press Sign in to proceed.
