How to install SPIP in XAMPP Windows 11

SPIP is a free content management system that you can use to create a free website. SPIP or Système de Publication pour l'Internet or internet publishing system in English was first launched on year 2001. And again, we are going to create a website out of this amazing CMS. Download the XAMPP and Spip installers below to start.

Requirements:

• xampp-win32-7.3.0-0-VC15-installer [download here]
• spip_loader [download here]

Here are the steps on how to install SPIP website using XAMPP in Windows pc

XAMPP Installation

1. Open the XAMPP file that you downloaded. If a Question regarding antivirus appears, just press Yes to proceed.

2. If a Warning also appears, just press OK to proceed.

3. Under Setup - XAMPP, press NEXT to proceed.

4. In the Select Components, do not change it. Just press NEXT to proceed.

5. In the Installation folder, do not change it also, press NEXT to continue.

6. In the Bitnami for XAMPP, just press NEXT to proceed.

7. We are now ready to install XAMPP, press NEXT to start installation.

8. Wait for the installation to finish.

9. When done, press Finish to exit installer.

Opening XAMPP and running Apache and MySQL

1. To run XAMPP, go to This PC > C drive > xampp folder. Find and click xampp-control.exe to open it.

2. Inside XAMPP Control Panel, press the Start buttons for both Apache and MySQL.

3. Apache and MySQL are both running now if you see Stop buttons and green background on both.

4. If a Windows Security Alert appears, just press Allow access.

Copying and pasting SPIP folder that contains spip_loader.php inside htdocs

1. Extract the spip_loader zip file that you downloaded and rename it as "spip". Copy your spip folder and go to This PC.

2. Inside This PC, open your C drive.

3. Inside C, open xampp folder.

4. Inside xampp, open htdocs.

5. Paste your spip folder inside htdocs.

Installing SPIP website using localhost via web browser

1. We are now ready to install our spip website. To begin, open your web browser and go to 127.0.0.1/spip/spip_loaded.php and press ENTER.

2. Under Download SPIP, click the dropdown menu to change SPIP 4.1 (see image below).

3. From SPIP 4.1, change it to SPIP 3.2 version. When done, press Install to start the download and installation.

4. Wait for the download to finish.

5. Under  "Installing publication system" in the Select a Language - select English and press NEXT to proceed.

6. In the Connection to your database, do the following: Indicate the type of database - MySQL. Database address - localhost. Connection login - root. Password - none or blank. Press NEXT to proceed.

7. In the Choosing your database, do the following: Select your database - Create new database. Prefix for tables - spip. Press NEXT to continue.

8. Under Personal Information, do the following: Signature - Administrator. Your email address - enter a valid email (you will also use this email for admin login). Your login - admin. Password - your desired password (do not forget it).When done, press NEXT to continue.

9. Done! You have successfully installed and created a website using SPIP CMS for free.

Opening SPIP website homepage

1. To open SPIP website homepage, just go to 127.0.0.1/spip or localhost/spip. Below is an example of the website created via SPIP that do not have any published posts.

2. Here is an example of SPIP website that has published posts.

Accessing SPIP website admin page

1. To access your SPIP admin account, just press the Private Area button located in your homepage.

2. Under login or email address, you can type your username or email address and then your password. Press Submit to proceed.
